Hot Redfish Bite
The redfish bite is heating up in the Pine Island area
By CAPTAIN SPENCER HOBBY
The past three days of fishing have been filled with slot sized (22-27’’) redfish with the occasional over slot fish (32-35’’). I’ve been catching all of these fish on shallow water shorelines and occasionally fishing deep potholes. Two of my trips out of the last three have been fly fishing charters sight casting mostly to the redfish and little blind casting. The sight casting visibility and water clarity have been perfect! The shorelines that I’ve been fishing have been primarily white sandy bottom with little to no turtle grass making it very easy to see the fish.
“The redfish bite is hot in Pine island sound, Sanibel Island, Captiva Island, and Matlacha area. If you want to catch redfish now is the time to book a charter.”
The majority of the fish in the area have been happy and not spooking. The spin casting charter consisted of us throwing bait (pilchards), and the redfish were eating them with zero hesitation. I spent a couple of hours also throwing cut bait in the deep holes, and we caught two bull reds.
