ABOUT CAPTAIN SPENCER HOBBY

Captain Spencer Hobby is a 2nd generation professional guide in the Fort Myers, Pine Island, Sanibel, Matlacha and Punta Rassa area. Captain Spencer Hobby now works in the same waters he was born and raised in. Starting at the age of 2, he has been running around Pine Island Sound, Caloosahatchee River, and San Carlos Bay chasing snook, redfish, and tarpon.

I have devoted my entire life to chasing these fish and putting my clients on the fish of a lifetime. Although my main species to target are tarpon, snook, and redfish I do target species such as permit, gag grouper, snapper, cobia, and tripletail. Depending on the time of year and weather, my targeted species are always alternating. Typically I fish in 2-6ft of water chasing redfish and snook. Tarpon can be anywhere in-between 4-20ft of water. Nearshore wrecks hold large permit and gag grouper. Fishinghobbytoo covers just about any fishing from backwaters out to 9 miles offshore. My cell phone is always near me, so if you have any questions, please feel free to text/ call. Tight lines! Please contact Captain Spencer Hobby today at 239-728-8482

Tarpon

Tarpon, also known as the Silver King, is undoubtedly the top species to target here in southwest Florida. Tarpon are moving in and out of our waters throughout the year but the primary season for us is April – July. I fish for tarpon in numerous ways, including fly fishing, drifting crabs, sight fishing rolling fish, slow retrieving lures, and fishing bridges. During tarpon season, I usually fish 4-6 times a week, so my knowledge of their location is always up to date. When booking a trip for tarpon, I suggest the 6 or full-day trip. Tarpon are very unpredictable, and longer hours of fishing and hunting them are always the best call, in my opinion. I also offer night fishing for tarpon at certain times of the year, which can be a blast.

Snook

Southwest Florida is known primarily for its abundance of the common snook. These fish have always been my go to fish to target. From fishing in 8 inches of water deep in the backcountry mangroves in the spring to catching them off the beach in the summertime, Snook can be caught year round. If you are looking for a highly consistent fish to catch, I recommend booking a snook fishing trip today! I have multiple snook spots that vary from sight casting to them in shallow water, fishing docks, finding giant schools on the beach, and fishing deep shorelines.

Redfish

Redfish are generally are attracted to the shallow grassy flats which cover about half of our fishing ecosystem. I generally hunt for redfish in 6 inches to 2 feet of water depending on the time of year. In the springtime, I’m usually poling my clients to laid up and cruising reds sight casting and blind casting. In the fall I’ll usually have schools of fish to target which sometimes can reach up to 200+ fish. Redfish can easily be a bycatch while snook fishing because of our exploding population. Book a redfish trip with me today to experience some of the best red fishing in the world!
